When Is Amazon Prime Day 2022?
Amazon Prime Day starts on Tuesday, July 12, and runs for 48 hours, ending at the end of the day on Wednesday, July 13, 2022. Sales start at 12 a.m. PDT on July 12, and end at 11:59 p.m. PDT on July 13. In 2021, Amazon Prime Day was in June.
Though Amazon Prime Day isn’t till July this year, early deals and new member-only offerings started June 21.1
What Is Amazon Prime Day?
Amazon’s first Prime Day was held on July 15, 2015. Announced via press release just a few days prior, the retail giant envisioned the event as an observance of its 20th anniversary and held the promise of more deals than Black Friday.
Initially launched as a one-day shopping extravaganza, Amazon Prime Day has since expanded—no doubt in response to incredible sales numbers and high demand. For the last three years (2019-2021), the event ran for 48 hours, and in 2018, Prime Day deals ran for an impressive 36 hours.
Amazon Prime Day has turned into a retail holiday of sorts, and it is “observed” or “celebrated’ in 18 countries around the world, raking in billions of dollars in sales.
One thing to keep in mind is that you have to be a Prime member to participate, but you can sign up for a free 30-day Prime member trial as an alternative.
When Do Prime Day Deals Start?
Amazon Prime Day may be in July, but deals and member-only offerings started on June 21 this year. From Echos and Kindles to Fire TVs, Amazon offered many deals on June 21, 2022.
But keep your ear to the ground through July 12: In Prime Days past, members have been able to take advantage of sales a few days prior to the event’s first big day.1
What Categories Are Best To Shop?
For Prime Day, Amazon slashes prices on items across myriad categories. You can always expect deep discounts on Amazon devices and the brand’s key products and proprietary electronics, including Amazon Fire Sticks, Fire Cubes, and, of course, Kindles.
What Will Be On Sale During Prime Day?
For Prime Day 2022, Amazon said in a press release that you will be able to shop more deals from national brands and third-party sellers than in past years. And that includes sales on products from small and medium businesses. Amazon also said that for Prime Day 2022, you can get sales on top brands like De’Longhi, Dove, and SodaStream.
What About Shopping Locally?
From fashion and toys to electronics and home essentials, you can shop locally on Amazon Prime Day. In fact, when you spend $1 on eligible purchases from small businesses between June 21 and July 11, you’ll receive a chance to win epic prizes, such as tickets to Super Bowl LVII.
“With the small businesses and national brands our members love and trust, we’re excited to offer some of our best Prime Day deals yet to even more customers around the world,” Jamil Ghani, vice president of Amazon Prime, said in the 2022 press release. “This year, we’re making it simple for members to find the best deals, from personalized deal recommendations to Alexa reminders. It’s never been easier for Prime members to shop, save, and make the most of Prime Day.”
And on the flip side, Amazon’s “Support Small” program lets you choose products from local and small retailers. All you have to do is choose your region: Pacific, Rocky Mountains, Northeast, Southwest, Midwest, or Southeast.
Are There Other Stores That Have Prime Day?
As a result of Amazon Prime Day’s overwhelming success and not to be outdone, other retailers tend to announce their own blowouts that coincide with Prime Day. In the past, Target, Walmart, Best Buy, and Kohl’s have tossed their hats in the ring.
In addition to large retailers running their own sales, Prime members will also find specific brands and digital suites on sale within Amazon. For example, in 2020, Amazon ran sales on several packages of Adobe Creative Cloud.
